Surin is a frequent go-to when I'm craving flavor and spice. The lunch menu in particular is a decent value but limited selection (although many of my favorites are on there). Some of my favorite appetizers include the basil rolls, the chicken larb, and the Surin baskets. The basil rolls are fragrant and served with a delicious dipping sauce. The chicken larb is mildly spicy ground chicken served with cabbage leaves, and the portion is large enough to be an entree for one if you prefer that to a shareable appetizer. The Surin baskets are unique--little pastry cups filled with a mixture of minced shrimp and chicken with corn, onion, and cilantro then topped with a honey peanut cucumber sauce--the result is an explosion of flavor in your mouth, a perfect amuse-bouche to prime your expectations for the meal to follow. I have several favorite entrees that I typically stick with, depending on my mood. The spicy beef salad is nutritious, filling, and flavorful; I typically ask for it extra spicy. The chicken noodle bowl is great on a cold day. The pad prik is a spicy stir fry in which you choose your protein (chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, tofu). The chicken panang is a great spicy curry, but if you prefer non-spicy, stick with the masaman chicken, which is peanut-based. The Thai BBQ chicken is a large meal that some could split into two servings. Another special entree is the nom tok beef, which has a similar flavor to spicy beef salad but is served with rice and cabbage leaves. Depending on what you order, your meal may come with a cup of spicy coconut soup. This is worth ordering on its own, as it is a savory and flavorful bowl of comfort (and not actually very spicy). Surin also serves sushi, but it's nothing special. If I'm craving sushi I'm going somewhere else; I come to Surin for the fragrant flavors and spices of Thai-style cuisine.

If you're around Birmingham and enjoy Thai food Surin West is a spot you shouldn't miss. Clean and crisp describe both the atmosphere and the service. The food is wonderful, although the spice has been pulled back to a more Americanized pallets. Now there's nothing left to do but go get ya some

5/5 stars for Surin!! Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. I honestly think you can't go wrong with whatever you order. We started with the pot stickers, egg rolls, and basil rolls. The pot stickers with the curry is amazing. I would go back and get 3 orders just for dinner. The egg rolls are nice and crispy and the basil rolls are light and fresh. For our entrees, we got the Pad Prik, Roasted Duck with Curry, Wings of Angel, and Thai noodles. Everything was delicious but the Thai Noodles and Wings of Angel stole the show.

Surin West was one of the first meals we had in Birmingham. Returned to try their lunch menu, which is very well-priced! We were greeted with friendly service and excellent lunch options. We only had to wait around 15-20 minutes for our food during peak lunch hours on a Friday. If you're a UAB student or employee don't forget to bring your badge for a 10% discount Tofu Coconut Soup: 10/10 Complimentary with a lunch order and great to sip on while you wait! Chicken Masaman w/ Avocado: 10/10 Very rich and flavorful. Chicken Noodle Bowl: 10/10 This tasted very similar to the Masaman Curry, just a touch sweeter. It was flavorful and very filling! Parking: It may be a bit difficult to find, but there is a large lot dedicated to Surin West customers around the corner from the restaurant. There is also street parking directly in front of the building, but this will typically be full during peak times.

We found this place on google while in town for a wedding. Seating and service were prompt. I got the spicy beef noodle. I found it very flavorful. Could possibly use more spice, but for what I was feeling at the time the spice level was perfect! For an appetizer we got the pot stickers. It was served with a red curry sauce which was extremely good with the pot stickers! All in all the food was good.

This Surin is the sister restaurant [and I believe the precursor] of the Surin in Huntsville on Airport Road. I love the Airport Road location! The staff and eats are exceptional! Since sushi was always a "treat" back in the 90s, my best friend who lived around the corner on Highland Ave., always selected Surin West for her birthday celebration and Surin always kindly accommodated her party of 8-12-ish guests in one of their private rooms. And Surin accommodated the copious gifts we brought and never rushed us through our celebratory dinner. Our entire groups never complained about anything: the meals were delicious, and the service was consistently attentive and friendly! We enjoyed a variety of sushi, sashimi, and sake. The 3 "Ss!" Now that best friend is moving back to Birmingham (yay!), I'm hoping we get to pay Surin a visit soon!

Surin West is wonderful! Fresh sushi, good food and great drinks. It's a little dim in there, bring your glasses if you need them. The service wasn't fast or slow. Staff was friendly. Super convenient if you're going to Birmingham Festival Theatre!
